Sinclair ZX Spectrum+

Commodore 64

Amiga 500

Ones upon a time in a distant dimension far far away there were a website called SpecTroMania.dk and even further back in time before anybody were able to remember anything at all, there were a bulletin board system called SpecTroMania BBS.

But why ohh why?!?

If you couldn't care less then I strongly recommend that you choose something else in the menu.

Well well...

My first computer was a Sinclair ZX-Spectrum. I got it at the age of 13. I wanted a Commodore 64 like every other computer nerd at that time, but a Spectrum was what I got. It was probably for the best, because even though the graphics and sound of the C64 were superior, the programming language of the Spectrum was easier for a 13 year old to understand and with time I grew very fond of my little rubber-keyboard.

The first Spectrum emulators for PC came out in about 1992. At first they were nothing to write home about, but a couple of years later they had become a lot better. So in 1994 I started up a bulletin board system (BBS) with programs and games for the Spectrum emulators. I figured that it was a bit crazy to be collecting old stuff like that, so I named it SpecTroMania BBS.

It ran for about 3 years, before I closed it. At the end I hardly got any users because of the Internet. It was my intention to start it up again as a web-site. It took me some time before I finally got around to do anything about it. I discovered that there were a ton of emulator-sites out there on the internet. Some of them where better and more detailed (as in crazy) than I could ever make mine (simply a matter of dedication and time). At that time I had already bought the name SpecTroMania.dk.

There you have it... that's it... there's nothing more to it.

And now... *sign*... I have turned the key on SpecTroMania.dk... how sad... buuhuuhuu!

Ohh well... never mind.

I recently dug up the old SpecTroMania BBS backup-tape and got the board working again locally, just for the kick of it. I took some screenshots just in honor of nostalgia.

Here we go:

After you logged on you were presented with this screen...

And then this one...

Then you got some information about the max. length of your stay...

If you were to call on your birthday you would get this screen...

Here is another one from that Monty Python loving looney...

Finally... the main menu...

The messageboard menu...

This is the Sysop and CoSysop menu. It was out of view from the general public...
